On the first day of the week we came together to break bread. Paul spoke to the people and, because he intended to leave the next day, kept on talking until midnight. There were many lamps in the upstairs room where we were meeting. Seated in a window was a young man named Eutychus, who was sinking into a deep sleep as Paul talked on and on. When he was sound asleep, he fell to the ground from the third story and was picked up dead. Paul went down, threw himself on the young man and put his arms around him. "Don't be alarmed," he said. "He's alive!" Then he went upstairs again and broke bread and ate. After talking until daylight, he left. The people took the young man home alive and were greatly comforted.

EUTYCHUS FORUM
Eutychus Forum is a ministry of SBCC and is devoted to keeping the church awake in the 21st century. We believe that the church is God’s primary instrument by which he displays his glory in the world. Accordingly, our focus needs to be sharpened continually while our conviction needs to grow increasingly more resolute.
WHY EUTYCHUS (U-TI-CHUS)?
Eutychus is not a skin disease, or a middle-eastern appetizer. Eutychus is a young man mentioned in the book of Acts. And why do we remember him? Simply put, he had the misfortune to fall asleep on one of the greatest preachers in history! And others have been asleep in the church ever since…
A quick look at Acts 20:7-16 has provided great comfort to preachers for two millennia. The apostle Paul (Paul!!!) was preaching one evening in the town of Troas. The author of Acts is kind to Paul noting only that Paul prolonged his speech until midnight. This is the inspired text’s way of saying, Paul got a bit carried away, forgot his “1001 Spiffy Illustrations Manual” and put everyone to sleep. Eutychus, however, a young man, slept. He really slept. So much so that he fell out of the third story window in which he was sitting and died from the fall! Preachers have been comforted ever since. “If they fell asleep on Paul…well, perhaps my sermons aren’t so bad after all…”
EUTYCHUS FORUM
Eutychus Forum is meant to stimulate pastors, preachers and sleepy disciples by inviting them to participate in conversations with Christian leaders, pastors and scholars who will, if we can stay awake, sharpen our focus as we attempt to glorify God in our lives and in the church. We invite you to listen in and join the conversation.
