It is all about love; God’s mission is that every human would be captivated by His love. Like any good mission, God’s has a strategy. God has been weaving one big story since the beginning of time. He’s the one orchestrating human history. God’s strategy is as specific as it is big. Right before Jesus went back to Heaven He said the Holy Spirit would give His people power to be His witnesses in Jerusalem (the city where they lived) and in all Judea and Samaria (the surrounding areas) and to the end of the earth (Acts 1:8). He has planted your family in this exact spot on the map and moment in history – your life is on purpose. You don’t live in this city just because you were born here or found a job. You live here because God wants His love to spread here. Since the love of God is in you, the mission of God is in you. Check this out:

And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to Himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to Him. For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to Himself… And He gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making His appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, ‘Come back to God!’ (1 Corinthians 5:18-20). Our families, our kids, speak to the world on behalf of Christ. With the same breath, Jesus said, “I am the light of the world” and “You are the light of the world.” He said, “Let your light shine before men” (Matthew 5:16).

What does that look like? Jesus’ game plan was threefold – reveal the Father, teach the Kingdom and love the least.

Reveal the Father. If we love each other then God’s love will be in us (1 John 4:1). If God is love (1 John 4:8), then the more we love people, the more of God they will see.

Teach the Kingdom. The Kingdom of God is everywhere that God is King. This is the gospel, the good news that Jesus was always talking about – the Kingdom of Heaven is here and all are invited in. But how can they come in if they haven’t heard the news and how can they hear without someone telling them (Romans 10:13-14)? Invite people.

Love the least. This is where the rubber meets the road. Jesus said that whatever we do “to the least of these” we are doing to Him. The most powerful way that we can love Jesus and love like Jesus is to take care of the hurting and the broken around us.
