Resources to Nurture Faith
Using Sunday Lessons
Our desire is for families to discuss and interact with what they learn at church on Sundays as part of integrating faith into their daily lives. Instead of the traditional take home pages, you will receive a link to this page to be your home-church connection. Take advantage of the ideas below each week to enrich both your family and our church family as you apply the lessons the children are taught on Sunday.
January 29th: Being salt and light - Matthew 4:23–5:16
Faith focus: When we do good works, we give glory to God.
Story Synopsis: Jesus proclaimed God’s good news by healing the sick and teaching about God’s way. Jesus called his followers to give glory to God by being salt and light for the world.
Choose from the following ideas:
- Read Matthew 5:3–5. Read it again substituting the word happy for the word blessed.
- Crowds followed Jesus because he healed sickness. Tell about a time of getting well after illness.
- “Blessed are the peacemakers” (Matthew 5:9). Name one way to be a peacemaker.
- Jesus said, “You are the salt of the earth.” Eat popcorn without salt; then add salt. Talk about the difference in taste.
- Set a lighted a candle near a window and briefly step outside. How far away did you see it shine?
- What is the longest teaching of Jesus in the New Testament? (Sermon on the Mount)
Prayers for this week: God, our hands are ready to work for you. Our voices are ready to share good news.
